Shelby Spruill, PA-C

Shelby Spruill, PA-C, grew up in rural NC working and playing on her family’s farm. She developed a fascination with medicine during her teenage years when a family member was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent a challenging course of chemotherapy. During this time, Shelby saw first hand the impact and importance of mental health in every aspect of medicine and life. The challenges people face may differ, but the need for compassion, empathy, and the space to be emotionally vulnerable remains consistent.

Shelby attended and graduated from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC where she majored in psychology while completing her pre-med curriculum. While applying to PA school, she went back to her hometown where she worked EMS and coached youth softball.

Upon acceptance to Campbell University’s PA program, she was selected by the US Air Force for the Health Profession Scholarship Program. Shelby graduated from Campbell in 2021 and went on to serve in the Air Force for the next 3 years.

During her military service, she worked in family and active duty medicine. She served as Flight Commander while also holding the duty of Sexual Assault Medical Manager and being the Medical Group representative for a military board that handles cases of neglect and abuse. The experiences she gained in service strengthened her belief that mental health is paramount to a holistic approach to medicine and well being.

Shelby puts great emphasis on the patient-provider relationship. It is an honor to be allowed into her patients’ world and to walk with them as they find their way to a better state of being. Outside of her profession, Shelby is an avid hiker, loves to read and travel, coaches youth sports, and values time with her family.

If you want a provider that’s relatable, non judgemental, and empathetic look no further than PA-C Shelby Spruill.
